Job Requirements
Position Summary 

The Crew Chief at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) -Ambulance Services is responsible for providing advanced emergency medical care and leadership in the field, ensuring high-quality patient care and operational efficiency. This role involves directing Ambulance Services crews during responses, maintaining compliance with protocols, and conducting thorough patient assessments. The position requires strong clinical skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

 

Minimum Requirements

Education

·        Associate’s degree in emergency medical care.

·        In lieu of associate’s degree, a High School Diploma with additional 1 year of related experience (with at least 6 months of experience occurring in the last year)

Experience

·        3 years’ experience as a paramedic for a transporting ambulance service

License/Registration/Certifications       

·        SC DHEC-Paramedic certification

·        National Registry Paramedic

·        CPR-Healthcare Provider

·        Driver License with no more than 2 at fault or moving violations in a three-year period.

·        ACLS- Advanced Cardiac Life Support

·        PALS- Pediatric Advanced Life Support

·        Must have one of the following NAEMT certifications- Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, Advanced Medical Life Support, or Geriatric Education for EMS

·        Must successfully complete SRHS-Ambulance Service Lead Paramedic qualifications to include written protocol test, ventilator competency, and IV pump competency.

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education

·        Associate’s degree or higher in emergency medical care

Preferred Experience

·        5 years or more

Preferred License/Registration/Certifications   

·        Critical Care Paramedic endorsement.

 

Core Job Responsibilities

 

Clinical Duties:

·        Provide patient care per protocols, transfer orders, and state regulations.

·        Safely operate ambulance in all weather conditions.

·        Properly move lift and move patients, stretchers, and equipment, without injury to the associate or patient.

·        Complete electronic and paper documentation accurately and completely for each transport.

·        Oversees patient care given on the ambulance and provides supervision to non-paramedic crew members.

·        Provides age specific and culturally appropriate patient care through knowledge of growth and development.

·        Maintains all required certification and attends required in-service training to maintain base knowledge and skills.

·        Work in all weather conditions which may include extremes in temperature and precipitation.

·        Maintain knowledge and skill to operate all equipment on ambulance correctly.

·        Knows department policies, procedures, equipment, trains staff, and new employees to achieve peak performance.

 

Education / staff Development/ leadership

  • Assesses educational needs of staff and works with the Supervisor/Manager to provide in-services and appropriate learning opportunities that are consistent with hospital and corporate initiatives and evidence-based practice.
  •  Serves as a clinical resource for staff, developing and assisting in orientation, annual competency and in-service training.
  • Investigates and analyzes patient or staff processes and provides guidance and problem-solving opportunities to insure optimal patient care.
  • Mentors/develops less-experienced staff.
  • Attends In-Service training per department policy and assists as needed.
  • Completes all required department training.
  • Assists the Supervisor/Manager with staff meetings, delegated committee participation, projects, record keeping, audits, and hospital initiatives.
  • Assists the Manager with unit meetings, delegated committee participation, projects, record keeping, audits, and hospital initiatives.
  • Will serve as on duty leadership in the absence of Shift Supervisor as directed by the department manager.
  • Provides monthly contact training with assigned staff as directed by the Training coordinator.
  • Assists with skills assessment of all staff during In-Service Training programs.

Policy and Procedure

  • Assists with development, yearly review and implementation of department specific policies, ensuring that policies meet the current standards of care and evidence-based practice.
  • Communicates regularly with the Supervisor/Manager to gather data, provide consultation, and ensure consistency in the implementation of policies and procedures.
