About the Role:

Job Summary

Performs various vascular ultrasound procedures that require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to provide reliable diagnostic information for Physician interpretation. Must have a good knowledge of vascular anatomy and pathology. He/she provides care/service that meets the development needs of patients ranging in age from adult to geriatric. The Vascular Technologist complies with standards of practice; assists with patient care activities; helps maintain supplies and equipment; and collaborates with other healthcare team members in response to patient and family needs. Required to take call in order to contribute to the coverage of Emergent Vascular procedures that occur during off-hours. The number of call shifts required per week will be determined by the Manager and will be based on department needs. Needs good communication and interpersonal skills. This position will care for patients in the adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: RVT or Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in field of Vascular.

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Maintains BCLS Certification
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques and operating principles involved in the operation of various ultrasound equipment
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate typing skills

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the patient while in vascular department.
  • Communicates and documents the assessment findings and reports changes in patient’s condition to the appropriate Physician.
  • Provide patient education pertaining to designated vascular procedure. Provides teaching and information to patients and family as appropriate to needs, age, and level of understanding.
  • Meets productivity standards defined by the department.
  • Prioritizes work load by addressing acute needs first.
  • Participates in the evaluation of tests by creating the appropriate reports and records as a result of the diagnostic procedure.
  • Participates in the initial interpretation of non-invasive vascular studies and submits to reading Physician.
  • Accurately inputs data in computer to charge/credit patient generated charges. Documents any pertinent patient information for reading physician to evaluate.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned.
  • Maintains records for ICAVL accreditation requirements.
  • Communicates any pertinent patient information to appropriate Physician/Nurse.
  • Reports any problems to department Supervisor immediately.
  • Informs patients/family of policy regarding presence of family during test/procedure and the issue of unattended children in the waiting area.
  • Assures patient comfort pre-, intra-, and post- procedure. Assist patient with ambulation and positioning as needed.
  • Maintains supplies clean patient rooms.
  • Ensures that equipment is clean and working properly.
