Job Description

General Summary

  • Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, participates in the nursing process in delivering care to patients and their families.  Duties and responsibilities include direct care activities required in daily practice on the assigned unit.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in good academic standing in a BSN program with expected graduation in May.
  • Current CPR Provider
  • Must be licensed as a CNA in the state of Maryland
  • Experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills are required to effectively interact with patients, families, nurses and other staff, demonstrating positive guest relations and treating patient information confidentially.
  • Ability to follows institutional infection control guidelines, and implement established institutional/unit policies and procedures to ensure patient safety.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient populations(s) served.  Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  • Must be able to work the schedule of assigned preceptor 36-40 hours/week during the assigned ten-week period, including weekends, nights and holidays.

Patient Safety

  • Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
  • Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.

Work Environment

  • Ability to independently lift up to 35 pounds and to lift, position, and/or assist patients;  standing and/or walking for 100% of scheduled work time; pushing and/or pulling wheelchairs, beds and related equipment.
