To help further the mission of Harbor, we are looking for a talented Senior Medical Director to lead our teams at our Community Health Centers (CHCs) which include:

  • Daniel Driscoll Neponset Health Center, 398 Neponset Ave. Dorchester, MA
  • Geiger Gibson Community Health Center, 250 Mt. Vernon Street, Dorchester, MA
  • Harbor Community Health Center-Hyannis, 735 Attucks Lane Hyannis, MA
  • Harbor Community Health Center-Plymouth, 10 Cordage Park Circle, Plymouth, MA  

Role and Responsibilities:   

Reporting to the SVP CHCs, the Senior Medical Director, Community Health Centers (SMD CHCs) has primary responsibility for leading and directing clinical practice across Harbor Health’s Community Health Centers to ensure the delivery of high-quality and safe patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, patient satisfaction, and provider satisfaction and engagement.

Administrative: 

  • Assists and advises operational and clinical leadership on systems and workflows affecting patient care and safety.
  • In collaboration with operational and clinical leadership, is responsible for establishing performance standards for clinicians such as productivity expectations, standard work hours, professional ethical standards, standards for granting Harbor Health privileges, and scope of practice for primary and specialty medical providers practicing at Harbor Health.
  • Oversees the development of clinical training partnerships and programs.
  • Oversees the review and approval of all clinical research proposals.
  • Participate in the development of clinical affiliations with local area hospitals and provider networks.
  • Maintains current knowledge of payment trends and stays abreast of grant and contract obligations.  Translate innovation in payment methodology (i.e. capitation and other risk-based models) to operational models.
  • Provides medical license information when required, on behalf of Harbor Health, to fulfill vendor or regulatory requirements.   Examples may be related to MDPH site license, lab relationship, medical supply vendors.

Regulatory:

  • Responsible for any duties that are required of a Medical Director under federal, state or local law or regulation.
  • Together with the Senior Leadership team, Site Practice Managers, Director of Nursing, and Medical Directors, oversees regulatory compliance efforts (e.g., DPH, HRSA, OSHA, FDA, etc.)

Patient Safety & Quality: 

  • Oversees provider peer review process.
  • Develops and ensures timely feedback and coaching for all providers on measures of clinical and patient experience performance.
  • Responsible for oversight of Clinical Quality for CHCs.
  • Responsible for the oversight of Clinical Risk Management activities.
  • Maintains HHSI’s Quality Improvement plan and ensures it is updated as required with HRSA.
  • Advises CEO and compliance leadership on risk management activities, including any malpractice claims.

Community Relations: 

  • Represents HHSI health centers with associations, institutions, and government bodies at the local, state and national level.

Provider Relations: 

  • Develops and implements strategies to improve provider engagement and experience.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, communication and improvements to provider contracts, the provider compensation plan, including design of any incentive programs.
  • Responsible for the provider training plan including the orientation plan for new providers and training in coding and charting.
  • Develops and coordinates clinical advisory committee for maintenance and development of Electronic Health Record.
  • Collaborates with other providers, including community health centers, community mental health centers, social service agencies and area hospitals/provider networks.
  • Provides oversight and support to credentialing and privileging process.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include
  • Medical Directors (CHCs), Director of Behavioral Health, Director of Dental Services, Director of Pharmacy

Requirements: 

  • Proven physician executive with a minimum of ten years of clinical practice and five to ten years of management or senior level leadership experience in a community health center or ambulatory care setting.
  • Board certified M.D. or D.O.; successful graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of an accredited residency program (Preference for Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics or Geriatrics).
  • Working understanding of federal and state regulations affecting the provision of health care services nationally and in the state of Massachusetts; knowledge of the rules and regulations governing federally qualified health centers.
  • Maintains a ‘servant leader’ style of leadership with providers and front-line staff across the organization.
  • Proficient with Office 365: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams and experience with EMR EPIC/OCHIN preferred.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to travel in a timely manner between all Harbor locations.

Required Certifications and/or Licenses: 

  • Current Massachusetts license and Board Certification M.D. or D.O.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers)
  • Current DEA and MCSR
