Job Description

General Summary

  • Under general supervision, performs routine and specialized sonographic procedures.

Principal Tasks/Responsibilities

  • The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
  • Executes basic clinical competence in Sonography, in all locations, across all patient types. Selects accurate equipment and technical factors on an individual patient basis and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patient.
  • Applies knowledge of Sonographic principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, physics, positioning and patient care skills. Appropriately performs high level disinfecting procedures to meet organizational infection prevention standards. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal and departmental regulatory compliance standards.
  • Documents accurate patient care activity in various electronic health records systems.
  • Ensures a safe and appropriate work environment. Maintains supplies and inventory in area. Informs appropriate colleague when supplies need to be ordered from outside vendors. Documents and reports related equipment/environmental problems in accordance with policy.
  • Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows, patient experience and quality

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from approved and accredited Ultrasound Educational Program.
  • 2 years of experience in General Ultrasound.
  • Certification from American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS)
  • American Heart Association, Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required to work with patients, visitors, and other healthcare team members successfully to foster optimal quality of patient care.
  • Effective listening skills are required in order to follow oral instructions properly.
  • Ability to follow written instructions is required
