Registered Nurse Pain Management
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through use of the nursing process. This includes the responsibility for assessment of the patient's needs, development of the plan of care to meet those needs, implementation of nursing measures and evaluation of the effectiveness of the nursing care and other treatment measures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required; BSN preferred.
Experience:
- Previous RN experience preferred.
- Charge qualified preferred.
- Current experience in refilling and programming intrathecal pain pumps.
- Experience in Urine Panel/Dip procedure.
- Experience in operating a C-arm for fluoroscopic procedures.
- Assist in programming a neurostimulation systems
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff.
- Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills.
- Job requires strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
- Communicates in highly professional manner at all times.
- Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times.
- Knowledge of Intrathecal pumps (refilling and reprogramming)
- Knowledge of addiction medications especially Suboxone.
- In depth knowledge of opiate medications.
- Ability to attend medication and device seminars.
- Ability to start and maintain IV administration.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania
- Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
- After four months from the hire/transfer date, meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews ACLS every two years.
- Within three months from the hire/transfer date, completes Crisis Prevention Institute’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI NCI) training and renews every 2 years thereafter.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives minimal supervision from the Manager of Hospital Outpatient Clinics.
SUPERVISION GIVEN
The Registered Nurse will only have supervision of others while serving as Charge Nurse.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists with various procedures in office setting including but not limiting to;
- Caudal Epidural Steroid Injection
- Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection
- Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injection
- Trigger Point Injection
- Botox Injection
- Stellate Ganglion Injection
- Performs Drug Administration System Refills after having completed competency validation with an instructor.
- Possesses knowledge about the anatomy and physiology of procedures that physicians will be performing on patient. Able to provide patient teaching.
- When scheduling patient for surgery:
- Assesses patient status regarding allergies to medication and IVP dye.
- Assesses diabetic status.
- Instructs patient on usage of medications preoperatively.
- Confirms anticoagulant dosing with prescribing provider.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
