Summary

Position Summary

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), under the direction of the Rehab Director/Manager and Licensed Physical Therapist, provides treatment, exercise instruction, and patient education in the homecare setting as directed by the Physical Therapist. Performs treatment interventions to achieve short and/or long-term goals as prescribed on the Plan of Care. The PTA performs other duties as assigned by PT and/or Rehab Director/Manager.

 

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Graduate of PTA program approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy

Education of the American Physical Therapy Association or Associate degree in Physical Therapy

Experience

  • One (1) year of clinical experience

License/Registration/Certifications       

  • Current license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant in South Carolina
  • Valid SC Driver’s License with good driving record
  • CPR certification

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Physical Therapist, carries out treatment and exercise programs.
  • Performs various therapeutic procedures, instruction, and physical assistance.
  • Assists and instruct patients in the use of assistive and/or supportive devices.
  • Monitors patient progress throughout all patient treatments and evaluates their strengths and weaknesses, adapting patient plans accordingly.
  • Tracks progress toward identified goals based on measurements set out in the treatment plans and communicates progress with the Physical Therapist.
  • Documents patient progress in the medical record and communicate documentation to all relevant parties
  • Maintains/enhances clinical practice skills by attending, participating in staff development, and continuing education programs.
