Overview
Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the behavioral health patient safety attendant will provide care to a patient by sitting with and diligently watching the patient while meeting the established criteria in accordance with established methods and procedures of the Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Patient safety. Consistently and independently maintains a safe, clean environment for patients.
- Reports maintenance needs.
- Utilizes universal precautions.
- Consistently adheres to established BBMC Close Observation Patient and Suicidal Patient Protocols.
- Continuously observes patients' behavior, mental status and activities, notifies RN of any changes or unusual occurrences.
- Documentation.
- Consistently and independently documents patient observation data on the Close Observation Supervision Record. Reports.
- Gives accurate report to oncoming shift.
- Aware of changes in patient care plan.
- Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
- Demonstrates behaviors in line with our organizational values.
- Maintains visual observation at all times, dedicates attention to observing patients with no outside distractions.
- Verbally redirects patients.
- Immediately summons nursing staff for required patient assistance, reporting any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Escorts patients when leaving the unit for activities and scheduled tests.
- Demonstrates the ability to set limits for patients and other de-escalation techniques.
Competencies Skills
- Clear Communication Skills Both Written And Verbal
Credentials
Education
- High school graduate or equivalent
Other Information
- Must read the BBMC Close Observation and Suicidal Patient Protocols and successfully complete the accompanying test.
- CPI certified.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset Basic Computer skills.
Salaries starting at
USD $16.50/Hr.
