Overview

Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the behavioral health patient safety attendant will provide care to a patient by sitting with and diligently watching the patient while meeting the established criteria in accordance with established methods and procedures of the Medical Center.

Responsibilities

  • Patient safety. Consistently and independently maintains a safe, clean environment for patients.
  • Reports maintenance needs.
  • Utilizes universal precautions.
  • Consistently adheres to established BBMC Close Observation Patient and Suicidal Patient Protocols.
  • Continuously observes patients' behavior, mental status and activities, notifies RN of any changes or unusual occurrences.
  • Documentation.
  • Consistently and independently documents patient observation data on the Close Observation Supervision Record.  Reports.
  • Gives accurate report to oncoming shift.
  • Aware of changes in patient care plan.
  •  Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
  • Demonstrates behaviors in line with our organizational values.
  • Maintains visual observation at all times, dedicates attention to observing patients with no outside distractions.
  • Verbally redirects patients.
  • Immediately summons nursing staff for required patient assistance, reporting any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Escorts patients when leaving the unit for activities and scheduled tests.
  • Demonstrates the ability to set limits for patients and other de-escalation techniques.

Competencies Skills

  • Clear Communication Skills Both Written And Verbal

Credentials

Education

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Other Information

  • Must read the BBMC Close Observation and Suicidal Patient Protocols and successfully complete the accompanying test.
  • CPI certified.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset Basic Computer skills.

Salaries starting at

USD $16.50/Hr.
