Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible to the Nurse Director/Manager/designee for overall practice.  Works under the direct supervision of a professional nurse and is responsible to her/him for the care/duties assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. A student who is enrolled in a recognized professional nursing program and participated in initial clinical experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff.
  2. Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills.
  3. Uses verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
  4. Demonstrates high level of mental and emotional tolerance, uses tact, sensitivity and sound judgments.
  5. Communicates in highly professional manner at all times.

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives direct supervision from the Unit Director/Manager, Nursing Supervisor, Nursing House Supervisor and Charge Nurse. Performs under immediate supervision work assignments, which are given at frequent intervals and checked regularly.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Provides and documents basic direct patient care commensurate with training, experience and orientation.
  2. Maintains safe patient care environment and reports.
    1. Keeps patient side rails up after giving patient care.
    2. Keeps patient call bell within reach of patient.
    3. Keeps patient's needed articles within reach, such as water, tissues, etc.
    4. Keeps patient's rooms and hallways neat and uncluttered.
    5. Reports any changes in patient’s physical or mental level of function to team leader or charge nurse.
  3. Provides indirect patient care.
    1. Cooperates with other team members in resupplying stock, delivery specimens to the lab, assembling new charts, delivering requisitions to other departments and running errands.
    2. Cleaning instruments.
    3. Answer telephone and relay messages.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
