POSITION SUMMARY

Performs duties of an MRI Technologist to achieve efficient, high quality patient care.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. High School graduate or its equivalent.
  2. Graduate of an approved two year Radiology training Program.

Experience:

  1. MRI experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Must have the ability to function as a team member and the ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with patients, staff members and physicians.

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Registered with the ARRT.
  2. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives general supervision from the Supervisor, Imaging Services and the Section Head of MRI.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Performs patient care/technical duties in an accurate and timely fashion.
    1. Greets each patient in a pleasant manner and provides excellent customer service to the patients, families and other staff members they come in contact with.
    2. Evaluates request for correctness of examinations ordered. Checks diagnosis, physician order, lab results and patient identification prior to exam.  Obtains prior and current patient history: documents pertinent information in PACS and Meditech.
    3. Reviews screening form for contraindications to MRI.  Re-screens patient and changes patient into gown prior to entering MRI unit.
    4. Provides patient education as a means to relieve patient anxiety and ensuring maximum cooperation during the MRI procedure.
    5. Prepares and positions patients for the MRI procedure.
    6. Determines and sets proper protocols for view/examination.
    7. Takes correct views for examination.
    8. Demonstrates IV competency, performs blood draws and point of care lab testing as needed.
    9. Documents history and other necessary items MRI screening forms as well as in PACS and Meditech.
    10. Maintains adequate inventory for work area.
    11. Keeps work area clean and orderly.
    12. Ensures that patients are properly prepped prior to performing procedure.
    13. Determines proper dosage of contrast and injects contrast media following department protocols.
    14. Performs MRI scans according to established procedures.
    15. Performs training and directs other personnel entering the MRI area.
    16. Seeks clinical guidance from Radiologists for difficult/unusual cases.
    17. Assists in the scheduling especially with emergency or unusual cases.
    18. Performs other related technical patient care duties as assigned.
    19. Performs shut down procedure of unit as needed.
    20. Assists Radiologist during special procedure examinations.
    21. Burns CD’s when needed.
  2. Provides documentation for department and medical center functions.
    1. Oversees documentation of patient care activities in PACS and Meditech.
    2. Participates in quality assurance program as outlined by the department's quality assurance program.
    3. Documents deviations from established policies and procedures and reports deviations to supervisor.
    4. Accurately completes Medical Center incident reports and reportable occurrence online when necessary.
    5. Performs assigned quality control duties accurately and timely.
  3. Assists in explaining policies, procedures and clerical functions to the radiology students as directed.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
