Summary

Position Summary

The Coding Manager serves as the immediate manager for the coding associates and is responsible for providing daily operational oversight of workflow, quality, and reporting activities for MGC hospital-based providers. The position requires depth of knowledge in coding systems software and reimbursement methodologies. Manager provides leadership to support the established goals of accurate code assignment, timely billing, and accurate reimbursement. Manager responsibilities include:  interviewing, hiring, coaching, daily supervision, and performance evaluation for both coding quality and productivity. The workforce is predominantly remote, therefore excellent communication skills are required to build teamwork and promote engagement.

Minimum Requirements

Education           

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field. In lieu of Bachelor’s Degree, an Associate's Degree with additional 5 years related experience.

Experience        

  • 3 years coding experience.

License/Registration/Certifications       

  • CPC, CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or RHIT

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education

  • Master’s Degree

Preferred Experience

  • 5 years coding experience with coding, supervision, and management
  • Experience in Epic environment
  • Experience with Encoder Pro
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Preferred License/Registration/Certifications   

  •  CPC, RHIT/RHIA with CCS/CCS-P

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Participates in the selection, training, and evaluation of associates.
  • Supervises, develops, and coaches associates engaged in the performance of Coding and Billing functions, motivating, and supporting others in overcoming barriers. Rounds monthly with associates to foster associate engagement.
  • Drives operational efficiency and sustains excellence in coding workflow with accountability for meeting and exceeding accuracy goals. Maintains appropriate scheduling to ensure appropriate work flow and limitation of use of overtime. Monitors individual and overall productivity, working to remove barriers and coaching team members on efficiency.
  • Monitors all relevant Epic coding work queues daily and assigns work to coders to ensure timely coding and billing. Will assist coders in work ques as needed.
  • Communicate and coordinate with PBS; Works pooled in basket messages from PBS for charge denials.
  • Works in conjunction with the Practice Manager on coding education and presentation for monthly coding meeting.
  • Reviews quarterly audits performed by outside firm to validate ICD-10-CM and CPT coding and distributes audit report findings to coders. Coordinates education for coders as needed/appropriate based on audit results.
  • Performs internal audits on coders and provides education/feedback as needed.
  • Uses critical thinking and sound judgment in decision making, maintaining regulatory compliance when making decisions related to coding and reimbursement.
  • Assumes personal responsibility for professional growth, development, and continuing education to maintain a high level of proficiency
  • Maintains the confidentiality of employees, patient, administrative staff, and medical staff information with no infractions
  • Provides Kronos manager functions for supervised associates
  • Conducts monthly rounding meetings with supervised associates
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  •  The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; at distances close to the eyes.
  •  The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
