Description

Under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner, the Medical Assistant III provides age-appropriate patient care in our ambulatory setting – recognizing normal and abnormal signs and symptoms and supporting the care team during life-threatening emergencies. As a senior-level MA, you’ll serve as a resource in precepting and orienting new staff and medical externs, independently coordinate and prioritize tasks per department protocols with minimal supervision, and perform administrative, clerical, and technical support duties within scope.

What You’ll Do

• Room patients; obtain and accurately record vital signs and clinical information in EPIC/Care Connect
• Administer medications as directed (oral, IM, subcutaneous, injections) and document in the EMR
• Perform venipuncture, waived lab testing, EKGs (routine and emergency), and specimen preparation for transport
• Prepare exam and treatment rooms and patients for procedures (e.g., sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy, pelvic exams, lumbar puncture)
• Recognize abnormal symptoms and lab values and report to the physician promptly
• Perform BLS and respond to medical emergencies
• Manage prescription refills, specialist referrals, and timely in-basket / MyUCLAHealth message follow-up
• Maintain QC records, refrigerator/freezer temperature logs, supply par levels, and inventory
• Precept and orient new clinical staff and medical externs, and contribute to process-improvement efforts
• Practice C-I-CARE service standards and comply with HIPAA, Joint Commission, DPH, and infection-control requirements
