Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Credentialing Specialist is responsible for the oversight of the credentialing of Medical Staff and Advanced Practice Provider appointment, reappointment, clinical privilege processes as well as the maintaining of the credentials data base. This role supports medical staff departments and committee meetings.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Associate degree in business or other equivalent office management. Bachelor degree preferred.
Experience:
- 4+ years of medical staff office related experience.
- Experience in medical staff credentialing preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to details.
- Ability to handle sensitive information such as provider, meeting, and committee information in a confidential manner.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
- Ability to address conflict in a transparent and respectful manner.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional and other databases.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist certification preferred.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general supervision from the Manager, Medical Staff Services.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs audits of the credentialing process for the Medical Staff and Advanced Practice Providers appointment, reappointment, and clinical privileges in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Credentialing Policy, and federal, state and accrediting bodies’ regulations.
- Assists with the verification of licensure, education, training, and other requirements as specified in the Credentials Policy, identifying any problem areas with the application.
- Ensures completeness of the credentialing files in preparation for Department Chair and Credentials Committee Chair review and approval process.
- Oversee the processing of temporary privilege and locum tenens requests in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws and Credentialing Policy to ensure compliance.
- Oversee the preparation of credentials recommendations from the Credentials Committee and the Medical Executive Committee, and forwards the report to the Board of Trustees.
- Ensures that physician call schedules are received and updated, including publishing monthly schedules in a timely manner.
- Provide support to the medical staff department and committee meetings through preparation of the agenda and minutes, meeting logistics, and other activities related to meeting management as needed.
- Performs audits of the medical staff credentials data base, including management of expirable data in a timely manner, and produces reports as needed.
- Oversees the coordination and facilitation of new provider, graduate medical staff and student orientations processes.
- Assists with credentialing database integrity and maintenance.
- Assists with ensuring the credentialing process workflow.
- Assists with the training of new team members as needed.
- Assists Manager with the review of Medical Staff Standards in accordance with Joint Commission guidelines.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
