Flight Medicine Physician Job Overview:

  • Provide care to authorized foreign military members who require flying or special operational physicals
  • Care includes examination of patients, formulation of differential diagnosis plans, identification and ordering of required tests; interpretation of results and subsequent implementation of treatment plans.
  • Determine the need for consultation and assist in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
  • Identify and/or initiate subspecialty referrals.
  • Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.
  • Provide care, as needed, to eligible beneficiaries assigned to DLI through examination of patients, formulation of differential diagnosis plans, identification and ordering of required testing, and primary and secondary preventative maintenance care.
  • Interprets examination findings and test results and implements treatment plans.
  • Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
  • Identifies and/or initiates subspecialty referrals.
  • Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Perform administrative duties to maintain patient medical records which includes coding of patient encounters and completion of all documentation within seventy two (72) hours of care.
  • Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.
  • Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.
  • Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
  • Have at least 1 year of experience in the last 3 years
  • DEA
  • BC/BE
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license. Any U.S. state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association
  • Computer Competency including medical records
  • Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada.
  • Clinical Competency - Knowledge of preventive medicine services including comprehensive aerospace medicine and occupational medicine. Include but are not limited to primary care management of common adult illness and injures, health risk counseling, pre-placement examinations, and fitness for duty examinations. Knowledge of the Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Army Instructions governing the duties and physical standards for aviators, special duty operators, and continued military services.
  • Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an internship and residency program, which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.
  • Certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM)
  • Certified as the Medical Review Officer (MRO) for the Drug Abuse Testing Program
