Summary:

The Financial Analyst provides analytical support to the department of financial planning. This role assists in the development of the annual operating and capital budget, prepares weekly and monthly statistical reports, bi-weekly productivity reports, monthly responsibility reports, capital spend reports, benchmarking against peer hospitals, and supports hospital department managers to ensure short-term and long-term planning align with business strategies and forecasts. Develops integrated revenue/expense analyses, projections, reports, and presentations. Assists with comprehensive and complex financial models. Communicates findings and makes recommendations to director or other team members as appropriate. Assists in other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

Assists with monthly accounting close process including analyzes monthly variance reporting and suggests accounts for further review; analyzes and prepares contractual allowance journal entry; provides a high level analysis of salary & wages, FTEs, and revenues; records other journal entries as needed. Processes hospital-wide benchmarking; develops and maintains productivity benchmarks; assists with the development and maintenance of bi-weekly productivity reporting; collaborates with department directors to analyze benchmark variances. Assists with profitability analysis for programs and procedures; monitors reimbursement performance for departmental charges; makes recommendations for improvements as necessary. Provides support for development, analysis and execution of the annual operating and capital budgets as well as the five-year plan; gathers historical data and assists with forecasting data; summarizes and interprets budget variances for assigned departments; demonstrates initiative in assisting management in resolving and correcting variances. Coordinates routine maintenance on the budget system software; tests templates and datasets to ensure processes are working correctly after each upgrade; maintains knowledge of software's reporting capabilities and generate ad hoc reports as needed. Develops and maintains cost accounting standards; assist in the maintenance and updating of the clinical costing system; assist with performing clinical cost allocations and reconciliations several times per year; maintain related reports for costing stats and Medicare cost report. Promotes a collaborative relationship with clinical and operations staff at all levels of the organization; assists assigned areas in gathering data for capital proformas for new services, projects and expenditures; coordinates and/or participates in meetings with departments requiring education and assistance interpreting their budget variances; maintains assigned monthly and bi-weekly reports for departments. Performs other duties as assigned.
