About the Role:

Job Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for creating a vision and strategic plan for oncology services and orthopedic services to include inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation and acute therapy services. Works collaboratively with the vice president of regional hospitals and other senior leaders on the development of a strategic plan.  Works closely with external leaders within the joint venture agreement for a free-standing rehabilitation hospital. Establishes annual plans and key performance indicators to demonstrate success of areas of responsibility. Contributes to the development of the physician manpower plan and annual strategic financial plan. Responsible for achieving results within the annual strategic financial plan. Provides leadership to various directors and managers within programs of responsibility. Forms strong relationships with employed and aligned physician practices to optimize patient referrals and care coordination.

 

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications:
  • Educational Requirements: Masters Degree.
  • Minimum Experience: Five or more years experience in a leadership role. Exhibits a thorough understanding of the healthcare environment, changes, and reimbursement methodology.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with Senior Administrative Leadership Team and Presidents of each acute care hospital. Provides regular reports and proposals to the senior leadership team for matters related to orthopedics, oncology and rehab. Works closely with the presidents of each respective acute care hospital in developing clinical service offerings. Works closely with senior leadership team on developing annual capital budgets and then prioritizing the allocation of those funds for highest and best use. Works closely with VP of Finance in developing annual capital budgets.
  • Strategic Visioning and Planning. Develops a multi-year strategic plan with regular updates to the VP of regional hospitals and other members of senior leadership. Seeks feedback from entity leaders and other senior leaders in developing priorities for the service line. Stays abreast of industry trends and uses those trends to inform strategic vision and plan. Collaborates with physicians in the development of the strategic plan.
  • Oversees Financial Operations and Optimizes Investments for Organizational Success. Develops annual operating budgets with input from department directors and managers. Maintains understanding of productivity benchmarks and ongoing oversight to ensure productivity goals are being met. Develops multi-year capital budget and replacement plan, working closely with leadership from surgical services and other depts. Maintains professional financial discipline by conducting regular financial operating reviews with department leaders. Identifies variances, document reasons for variances and looks for offsets to budget variances. Proactively identifies opportunities to improve revenue and reduce expenses by optimizing value.
  • Medical Director Collaboration and Dyad Partnerships. Oversees medical director job description and is responsible for overseeing performance of medical directors. Reviews monthly medical director timesheets to ensure accuracy and optimization of value for services. Develops strategies to maintain engagement with medical director, including regular meetings.
  • Performance Review, Counseling, Coaching & Employee Engagement. Maintains high levels of employee engagement among all direct reports and departments. Provides regular feedback on performance of leaders who are direct reports. Completes employee evaluations and engages direct reports in professional goal development.
  • Regulatory Oversight and Compliance. Maintains a high level of knowledge for healthcare regulation including CMS, CoC, ACS and DNV. If determined to be an organizational priority, oversees pursuit of orthopedic center for excellence. Works closely with finance and compliance on any audits or other regulatory activities. Has ultimate responsibility to develop, approve and oversee hospital policies governing areas of responsibility. Oversees and ensures achievement of other various accreditations for Oncology to include CoC, APEX and NAPBC.
  • Leads as a LEAN leader by upholding Quest for Excellence Principles. Oversees daily management system deployment for respective areas of responsibility. Ensures management team is attending offered courses in Quest for Excellence. Follows up regularly with leaders to reinforce the importance of LEAN leadership principles. Maintains high proficiency in Quest for Excellence in order to serve as a LEAN coach for respective management staff.
  • Orthopedic Nurse Navigation. Supervises department leadership for orthopedic nurse navigation. Evaluates at least annually the operational efficiency of orthopedic nurse navigation to optimize value to organization and patients. Works closely with physicians and nursing leadership to optimize orthopedic nurse navigation.
  • May be asked to serve on various workgroups and committees throughout the organization, as well as other duties as may be assigned.
