Job Description

General Summary

Responsible for the administration, configuration, implementation, operation, availability, upgrade, and use of the Epic Cogito user facing reporting and analytics tools to ensure the continued improvement and optimal performance of the Epic Analytics system. Work is performed under general direction. Direct report to the Director, Clinical and Business Intelligence.

Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

 

    • Responsible for coordinating the Reporting Workgroup which consists of reporting and application teams to provide meaningful insights to drive informed healthcare decisions and assist with the acceleration of the Epic reporting tools.
    • Facilitate design and technical meetings and contribute to data governance efforts including definitions, implementation, and organization.
    • Consult with various Data and Analytics departments and Epic Application teams across the enterprise to build data solutions.
    • Serve as subject matter expert for all Epic Cogito applications (e.g., SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench, SQL, Crystal, Radar Dashboards, etc.).
    • Serve as the “reporting” czar by coordinating and determining impact of all Epic reporting upgrades; ensure changes and impacts are communicated to all Epic application staff and operational personnel.
    • Develop and deploy standards and common processes for developers and end-users of Cogito tools.
    • Monitor for compliance and resolve non-compliant solutions with appropriate stakeholders.
    • Manage and maintain the Analytics Catalog.
    • Partner with BI developers, analysts, and customers (e.g., clinical/operational leaders, data scientists, quality analysts, etc.) to design, create, extend and publish Caboodle data models, and enhance SlicerDicer functionality.
    • Serve as subject matter expert for all Cogito security; work closely with the Foundations Security team, troubleshooting as needed and ensuring adherence to all system security policies.
    • Coordinate with Epic application teams on configurations, user security, customizations, etc. to ensure effective implementation and adoption of Cogito solutions by end-users.
    • Collaborate with Clarity/Caboodle administrators to load, validate and customize Caboodle data models/tables and coordinate Epic upgrades.
    • Conduct peer review and quality control sessions for new Cogito builds.
    • Monitor production usage, uptime, and performance; troubleshoot issues and initiate corrective action as needed to sustain target performance levels of Epic Cogito solutions.
    • Utilize Data Courier to promote Cogito components across Epic environments consistent with release management processes.
    • Work closely with the application team, Clinical Informatics and Cogito trainer to incorporate reporting into their lesson plans to ensure a comprehensive training program is sustained.
    • Remain vigilant of data architecture standards and best practices to ensure solutions are maintainable and scalable.
    • Effectively communicate application barriers/limitations to management and enterprise partners.
    • Serve as liaison to site executives, User Design Centers, and other committees to ensure thorough understanding of organizational strategic and operational objectives.
    • Lead the development and validation of test plans for solutions, applications and/or operating systems.
    • Triage and prioritize data request and seek understanding of technical requirements.
    • Ensure adherence to testing and validation processes of all reports prior to migration to production.
    • Maintain knowledge of and promote compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and UMMS policies and procedures.
    • Prioritize and implement requested reports and changes; analyze new functionality in releases to determine how it should be used and access value and plan for implementation.
    • Partner with Epic representatives, UMMS Application teams, Clinical Informatics and end-users to ensure reports meet organizational needs.
    • Lead support during implementation or upgrades; able to serve as a report expert to assist in application roll-out.
    • Follow and promote team standards, development methodology and processes for specification, implementation, testing, change management, distribution, and documentation of reports.
    • Update ticket tracking system with routine status updates and manage ticket queue.
    • Lead cross-functional teams to complete projects, including work plans, system design, and testing of solutions.
    • Conduct and/or participate in training and educational programs for professional development.
    • Mentor report developers to improve technical skills and provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, with experience in healthcare including business and clinical aspects preferred.

            Experience

    • 7 + years of experience developing reports.
    • 5 years of progressively responsible experience working with clinical information applications and systems in a healthcare environment, with emphasis on developing reports.
    • 5 years of experience using Epic Cogito tools (e.g. Radar Dashboard, Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, etc.).
    • 7 years of experience with one or more of the following EMR systems: Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.
    • Epic Certification in Cogito Project Management must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
