Overview

Performs daily clinical operations of Echocardiography including performing Echocardiograms, entering preliminary interpretation, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure positive patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing routine and emergency echocardiograms including but not limited to 2 dimensional, 3 dimensional, Doppler, color-flow mapping, transesophageal (TEE), and stress Echocardiogram (SE) as requested by the physician and in accordance with standard practices.
  • Prioritizes all procedures and situations within the department.
  • Recognizes the need for contrast and initiates standing orders. Prepares, documents, and accurately administers IV contrast per department policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes artifacts and technical problems and eliminates probable sources.
  • Recognizes abnormalities and reports the findings to the physician according to guidelines.
  • Provides echocardiography services at all necessary locations, working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent call coverage as scheduled.
  • Analyzes patient's medical records to obtain history and necessary information for the performance of diagnostic procedures. Prepares preliminary reports for review and interpretation by the Cardiologist, including the comparison of previous studies.
  • Maintains appropriate departmental logs, files, and records.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients, employees, and corporation related activities.
  • Maintains established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Attends ECHO lab meetings, participates in ECHO related continued education, and participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Cultivates a collaborative and cooperative work environment within the department and multidisciplinary team. Communicate technical and patient care related information according to established processes and timelines.
  • Operates equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and to obtain optimal diagnostic recording. Utilizes ancillary devices such as selected transducers and analysis systems. Maintains equipment in working order and performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance. Reports equipment malfunctions to the echo lab leadership team.

Qualifications

BLS Certification

One or more years' experience in Echocardiography.

Competency-IV access, contrast administration, and IV removal competency.

Credentials

* BLS - Basic Life Saving certification
* CCI - Cardiovascular Credentialing International

Education

* Associates Degree

* Graduate of an accredited formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology Program is required. May substitute with RCS or RDCS certification.

Salaries starting at

USD $35.15/Hr.
