Clinical Lab Assistant

The department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a full-time Clinical Lab Assistant to support technical laboratory personnel in day-to-day operations of the dermatopathology, histology and immunohistochemistry laboratories.

The incumbent will:

· Prepare simple and complex reagents or media under direct supervision.

· Receive, accession and triage patient specimens, blocks and slides.

· Clear understanding of the standards required to work in a Histology laboratory under CAP and KSOM guidelines

· Monitor incoming phone inquiries and requests.

· Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relations with clients and other personnel

· Identify and separate specimens to be referred to outside laboratories or analyzed by other USC laboratories.

· Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.

· Maintain and organizes laboratory supplies. Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed.

· Under direct supervision of pathology administrators, order laboratory consumables and track billing and reconciliations of supplies of the laboratory.

· Must be highly organized, and detail-oriented

· Possesses effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

· Proficiency with typical software packages such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

Shift: Monday - Friday 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm 40 hours a week

Hourly range:

Minimum Education:
Related undergraduate study
Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Work Experience:
< 1 year
Preferred Experience: 1 year in a Clinical Laboratory
