Position Description

Coordinates, guides, directs, and administers the activities associated with special projects and assignments originating and associated with the Dean, School of Medicine’s Office by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate personnel.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Clinical Operations Leadership:
    • Provide executive oversight for the day-to-day clinical operations across all ambulatory settings.
    • Ensure smooth coordination of patient care delivery, scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation.
    • Partner with department chairs, clinical service line leaders, and practice managers to achieve optimal clinic flow and performance.
    • Oversee centralized services such as call centers, referral management, and patient access improvement initiatives.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution:
    • Develop and implement short- and long-term operational strategies that enhance clinical productivity, patient satisfaction, and faculty engagement.
    • Lead initiatives to expand service lines, improve practice efficiency, and enhance population health efforts.
    • Contribute to enterprise-wide clinical integration efforts, including telehealth, value-based care, and collaborative care models.
  • Financial Oversight:
    • Partner with finance leadership to monitor clinical revenue, expenses, and key financial performance indicators.
    • Identify opportunities for growth and cost savings across clinical operations.
    • Oversee development and tracking of annual clinical operational budgets.
  • Clinical Quality and Compliance:
    • Lead efforts to improve clinical quality, safety, patient experience, and compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
    • Ensure effective resolution of patient complaints and incident reports in coordination with risk management and compliance office.
    • Support preparation and response for clinical accreditation surveys and audits.
  • Faculty and Provider Support:
    • Collaborate with department chairs and faculty affairs to support clinician recruitment, onboarding, and retention.
    • Develop clinical guidelines, productivity benchmarks, and performance expectations for faculty providers.
    • Promote faculty development in clinical leadership and practice management.
  • Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Serve as the liaison with affiliated hospitals and external clinics for clinical coordination and partnership development.
    • Participate in governance meetings and initiatives with partner institutions to align goals and resources.
    • Engage in community outreach and relationship-building to support mission-driven service to underserved populations.
  • Leadership and Supervision:
    • Supervise Clinical Department Administrators responsible for ambulatory operations, quality, clinical analytics, and administrative services.
    • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team environment.
    • Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and best practices in clinical affairs.

Required Qualifications

+Education:+ Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related area. +Experience:+ Eight years of administrative management experience, preferably in medical or educational area. Master’s degree in Business/Public Administration or related area may substitute for four years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (e.g., MD, DO, OD, PhD, DNP, or EdD) with substantial experience in academic or clinical leadership.
  • Master’s degree in Health Services Administration (MHSA), Master’s degree in Health Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Public Health (MPH), Nursing (MSN), or related field.
  • 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in clinical operations, academic medicine, or health system management.
  • Experience in managing multi-site clinical practices and working within complex academic medical centers.
