The Rural Health MLT will be able to perform routine clinical laboratory tests done in hematology, chemistry and coagulation. Must follow established standards and practices, performs various quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies to comply with physician requests. Duties include analysis of various blood, body fluids and tissues, in order to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Education

• Associate degree in the laboratory related science with the completion of an approved technical training program.

 

Experience

• 1-3 years' experience in a hospital laboratory.

 

 

License/Registration/Certifications

• MLT registry through ASCP

Core Job Responsibilities

• Decisions concerning sample collection and handling

• Daily instrument maintenance and quality control

  • Sample testing
  • Collection and interpretation of data
  • Maintenance of accurate records and reporting of data
  • Knowledge of critical values
  • Must follow established standards and practices, performs various quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies to comply with physician requests for analyses of various blood, body fluids and tissues, in order to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients, families and visitors ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric.
  • While these standards are intended to be an accurate reflection of the job requirements, management reserves the right to modify add/or remove duties from particular jobs and to assign other duties as necessary.
  • Compliance: understands and complies with the Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Responsible for performing patient access activities such as collecting and documenting correct demographic and billing information, maintaining an accurate cash drawer, issuing receipts, managing daily deposits, assisting patients with scheduling/rescheduling/confirming of all appointments, and maintaining an orderly flow of patients through the reception and lobby area.
  • Dispose of biohazard waste according to state standards.
  • Maintain OSHA requirements and practice OSHA standards.
  • Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Perform duties and adhere to requirements of Rural Health Clinic Standards as they relate to Corporate Compliance, Human Resources, Infection Prevention, Equipment Maintenance, Quality, and Regulatory Management.
  • Responsible for assisting with obtaining and maintaining Rural Health Clinic certification.
  • Possess the ability to use innovative and creative solutions to manage challenges in the Rural Health Clinic.
  • Possess a wide knowledge of resources available within the community.
  • Possess ability to adapt to the resources that are available.
