POSITION SUMMARY

The Trauma Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the trauma program.  Through direct accountability to the Supervisor, Quality and Patient Safety and in collaboration with the Director, Quality & Patient Safety and the Trauma Program Medical Director, the program coordinator is responsible for execution of Trauma Center operations related to Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) Standards, trauma, performance improvement activities, community outreach activities, EMS collaboration, research activities and staff development activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. Associate Degree in Nursing required

Experience:

  1. A minimum of 3 years Emergency Department experience as a Registered Nurse required.
  2. A minimum of 2 years Charge Nurse experience preferred.
  3. Experience in the implementation and administration of clinical quality databases preferred.
  4. Experience in healthcare quality preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Proven analytical skills with the ability to organize, maintain, process, and analyze large amounts of information and complex issues.
  2. Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and appropriate manner (verbal, nonverbal, written and graphically) with a variety of audiences.
  3. Ability to manage multiple complex assignments and projects.
  4. Exceptional customer service and effective interaction with executives, physicians, staff and patients.
  5. Strong diplomacy and collaboration skills.
  6. Sound decision-making skills.
  7. Experience with spreadsheet and database software required.

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania required
  2. Certification as Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or certification in healthcare quality (CPHQ) preferred

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops, implements and evaluates trauma services, per the standards defined within the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation Standards of Accreditation manual.
    1. Coordinates daily operations of trauma in a systematic matter to improve operational effectiveness and ensure quality of services.
    2. Assists in the development of the trauma program strategic plan.
    3. Develops, implements and evaluates policies, procedures, performance improvement activities, clinical management guidelines and CMS compliance.
    4. Responsible for trauma program registry activity, submission and report interpretation/analysis.
    5. Collaborates with the Trauma Program Medical Director in managing all aspects of the trauma program.
    6. Participates in development, implementation and evaluation of the surgical critical care service procedures, performance improvement activities, and clinical management guidelines as it pertains to trauma patients.
    7. Collaborates with subspecialty services in the development and implementation of quality programs.
    8. Initiates actions, new approaches, policies and programs to facilitate continual improvement of trauma services.
    9. Provides oversight of the trauma registry and quality improvement specialist activities.
  2. Represents leadership by developing effective working relationships with administration, medical staff, nursing staff and hospital staff.
    1. Establishes and maintains the provision of outstanding customer service.
    2. Establishes presence in the trauma community on a local, regional and national level.
    3. Initiates actions, new approaches, policies and programs to facilitate continual improvement of trauma services.
