Listed is the base hiring salary range offered for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to skills and experience. The salary range listed is just one component of the total rewards/compensation package offered to candidates.

Mid = $61.74
Max = $74.09
Summary:
The Pathology Assistant will support pathologists in the preparation and examination of tissue samples, body fluids, and post-mortem bodies. This role requires a strong understanding of pathological testing procedures, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high laboratory standards.
Responsibilities:
Grossing Examination: Perform simple and complex gross examination of surgical, biopsy, and cytology specimens, including dictation, complete dissection, selection, and submission of tissue sections for microscopic examination. Assist with autopsies as needed. Ensure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling. Photograph pertinent specimens. Perform frozen section procedures during intraoperative consultations. Select appropriate ancillary testing and perform specialized procedures as requested. Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Document findings and maintain accurate and legible records.
Training and Development: Assist in training pathology technicians in surgical pathology techniques and procedures. Train histotechnicians/histotechnologists qualified to perform complex testing in the grossing of specimens. Create, track, and monitor training programs.
Pathology Information Systems: Collaborate with LIS Analysts, IT, physicians, nursing services and ancillary departments to determine PIS needs and objectives. Plan and direct PIS administration and training. Establish standards in collaboration with the Director of Laboratory Services and Medical Director, participating in QA/QC audits. Maintain responsibility for slide scanning systems and integration of present and future remote pathology diagnostic systems. Monitor regulatory compliance for these systems and design workflows and systems to maintain patient safety.
Quality Improvement: Participate in continual quality improvements within the Department of Pathology. Assist with the Tumor Board, including scanning and selection of slides. Collaboratively partner with the system-wide healthcare team to establish annual measurable objectives.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Master's degree in Pathology, related field, CLIA equivalent education.
- Certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA) or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy, pathological processes, and surgical techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years related experience.
- Experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of laboratory accreditation processes and quality assurance programs.
