POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Manager Facilities Services the Life Safety Maintenance Worker is a mobile technician responsible for maintaining, inspecting, testing, calibrating, replacing and repairing life safety systems within the hospital and off site facilities. The Life Safety Maintenance Worker will work with the Environmental Health Specialist to keep track of maintenance schedules and ensure all inspections and testing are done according to standards and codes set forth by manufacturers, federal, state, and local jurisdictions, and customer requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. High school education or equivalent required
  2. Associate degree or two years of Vocational Technical training in mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems preferred.

Experience:

  1. Five years full time experience with utilities and asset maintenance in large public setting – healthcare experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Familiar with NFPA codes and other relevant safety regulations.
  2. Expertise in low-voltage electrical systems.
  3. Ability to drive to multiple sites daily.
  4. Demonstrated  proficiency in mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  5. Ability to work with software applications (BAS, Office Suite, Outlook, etc.)
  6. Ability to trouble shoot equipment problems and determine root cause of failures
  7. Exhibits good cooperation with management, such as a positive response to applicable improvement issues found in performance reviews or elsewhere; a positive response to instructions or work assignments; a positive approach to improving skills, communications, and productivity
  8. Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding and to work overhead and in cramped quarters
  9. Ability to communicate and collaborate with other persons within department and with employees from other departments
  10. Ability to manage priorities and work efforts across shifts and with contractors
  11. Demonstrated initiative and commitment to continuous improvement objectives
  12. Ability to recognize patient and staff surroundings and work in a clean, quiet and respectful manner

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Must have a valid driver’s license.
  2. Within one (1) year of hire/transfer, successfully completes The American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), NFPA-99, “Healthcare Facilities Code”, Certificate of Attendance.
  3. Within two (2) years of hire/transfer, successfully completes NFPA-101-2012, “Life Safety Code”, Certificate of Attendance is completed.
