Job Description

General Summary

Under general supervision, provides and coordinates care to patients at UM Baltimore WashingtonMedical Center. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the patient care team. Demonstrates and models the full rangeof nursing practices in both care provided and in participation in development of strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfactionwith service and cost effectiveness at the departmental level. Is accountable to the patients and families for the processes andoutcomes of care during their care throughout the entire spectrum of services. Patients served include adult through adult-geriatric.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing or found by the Board to be substantiallyequivalent to the programs in Maryland. Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland. BSN preferred. One (1) year of patientcare experience as an RN preferred. Previous Vascular experience strongly preferred. Successful completion of a refresher coursewithin the past six (6) months if nursing practice has not occurred within the past five (5) years. Previous experience using a businessoffice suite, such as Microsoft Office, is required. Current BLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care isrequired.

Working Conditions

Works inside a clean, well-lighted office/clinic environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations.May be physically or verbally abused by patients. May be expected to work past normal tour of duty if the need arises. Potential forregular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard (Universal) Precautions andsafe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respiratormask fitting.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, stooping and bending. Involves heavy lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (up to and in excess of 100lbs.), in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Manual dexterity for operating equipment and computers; visual acuity forviewing display monitors and reading patient charts. Acute hearing required to assimilate oral communication from patients,physicians, other healthcare providers and family members.
