Job Summary: Orders and maintains an appropriate inventory of respiratory therapy supplies.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Attends and participates in internal and external educational meetings (departmental in-services, staff meetings, and manufacturer's training sessions) to maintain and enhance technical competence. Demonstrates and teaches the use of oxygen delivery equipment, restricted to that equipment not requiring a licensed respiratory therapist for teaching.
- Assists the Respiratory Therapist in maintaining readiness of mechanical ventilators by preparing various circuits and conducting electronic and pneumatic tests between patients. Assembles various circuits used in non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Conducts preliminary troubleshooting activities when a mechanical ventilator malfunctions; notifies Clinical Engineering and arranges repair.
- Conducts preventative maintenance activities according to the manufacturer's recommended guidelines. Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning oxygen and suction regulators and flowmeters.
- Monitors inventory of consumable plastics (e.g., oxygen administration devices, various circuitry) and orders supplies. Delivers inventory to designated areas within the medical center. Assembles and delivers various circuits (e.g., non-invasive mechanical ventilation circuits) to critical care areas.
- Performs oxygen rounds and enters daily charges using the Charge Entry function in CCC. Delivers full oxygen cylinders to designated supply areas in the general patient care units; retrieves empty cylinders and returns them to the bulk storage area. Provides scheduled and unscheduled education concerning changing regulators on oxygen cylinders.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required .
- 0-1 years related work experience required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Competencies:
- Written Communications: Ability to read, and write in English in order to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients, families and other medical center staff; and respond to basic questions.
- Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English in order to follow basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively in basic English with patients, families and medical center staff in response to routine questions.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
- Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
- Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
Age based Competencies:
Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Very Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Employee is physically active in all elements of the job.
