Level 1 Trauma center with twenty-four OR rooms are used to perform the following types of surgeries: Orthopedic, Urologic, Gynecological, General, Neurological/Spine, ENT, Hepatobiliary, Plastic Reconstructive and Cosmetic, Podiatry, GYN Oncology, Thoracic, Cardiovascular, Vascular, Bariatric Hand Reconstruction, and Robotic (General, GYN, Colorectal, Urology, CV/CT, Ortho, Bariatric)
Surgical Center of Excellence in Hernia, Robotic, Colorectal, Minimally Invasive GYN and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
Job Summary
A Staff Clinical Perfusionist (Perfusionist) is responsible for the safe and effective management of extracorporeal support for the purpose of surgical repairs to the heart and great vessels during scheduled and unscheduled procedures at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (Medical Center). Responsibilities also include providing on-call coverage when scheduled per departmental policy, including cardiac catheterization laboratory stand-by, assistance with intra-aortic balloon pumps (IAPB), cell saving, etc. The Perfusionist will report directly to the Chief Perfusionist and complete all assigned functions and duties as outlined below. This position will care for patients in the adult and geriatric age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Licensure or other certifications:
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Allied Health Professions – Circulation Technology from an accredited School of Perfusion with current Board Certification/Board Eligibility. Current Board Certification or Board Eligibility.
- Minimum Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of clinical perfusion experience with such procedures as left-heart bypass, ventricular assist devices, emergency percutaneous support devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps, laboratory blood analysis, cell saving and plasmapheresis.

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must possess a high level of technical competency
- Must also have the ability to interact with physicians, hospital staff and administration
- Must possess excellent oral, written and computer skills
- Uses good sterile technique
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
- Properly assembles circuit and prepares for CPB.
- Insures correct fluids and drugs are used and are sterile.
- Performs and documents QC of HMT device.
- Assembles tubing circuits correctly.
- Functions as a competent member of the cardiac team by coordinating patient. care with other staff.
- Maintains thorough and accurate record of CPB.
- Documents QC and test results for ACT measuring device.
- Monitors all aspects of CPB management continuously.
- Participates in equipment maintenance and materials management. reports equipment problems, keeps perfusion equipment clean.
