Overview

The Nursing House Supervisor is a member of the administrative team who supervises and facilitates patient flow and deployment of resources for the medical center 24/7. The Nursing House Supervisor reports to the administrator-on-call significant incidents and problems such as, but not limited to:
• Unusual patient or family problems or concerns o physician concerns
• Borrowing or lending of major equipment
• Major damage or utility outages
• Security problems
• Public relations or media events
• Union activities (unapproved)
• Fire or Disaster
• Bomb threats
• Active Shooter
• Law enforcement required on site
• Matters of legal importance
• Calls received from the any regulatory body
• Safety issues & concerns
If hospital incident command is enacted, the Nursing House Supervisor functions as incident commander until the Administrator on Call is able to take command.

Qualifications

Education:

 

1) Bachelor’s degree in a nursing from an accredited School of Nursing required. May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education.
2) Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or equivalent preparation preferred.

 

Experience:

 

1) 5+ years of direct care nursing experience.
2) 3+ years of leadership experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

1) Demonstrated and documented excellent oral and written communications skills.
2) Ability to function as a liaison among unit staff, physicians, medical center administration, and ancillary departments.
3) Skillfully and consistently uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude in the performance of job duties and responsibilities.
4) Demonstrates maturity for accountability of job performance.
5) Conducts business in a professional and cordial manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of Mount Nittany Medical Center.
6) Knowledge of human resource laws and regulations as they relate to the management of staff.

 

License/Certification/Registration:

 

1) Current PA Registered Nurse licensure.
2) Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
3) Within three months from the hire/transfer date, completes Crisis Prevention Institute’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI NCI) training and renews every 2 years thereafter.
4) Must be able to meet mandated clinical unit requirement (such as but not limited to: critical care course; chemotherapy etc.) within designated time frame assigned by the manager and director.
5) American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
6) Appropriate professional certification preferred or required within 1 year of eligibility for professional certification exam.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

 

Reports to the Director, Acute Care Services. Effectively makes independent decisions. When there is no established policy, collaborates with appropriate administrator.

 

SUPERVISION GIVEN

 

Assists with the supervision of assigned unit staff.
