Our Critical Care West (CCW) team at BWMC is looking for an experienced Critical Care / ICU Registered Nurse (RN), for its 24 bed unit. In this role, the RN will serve patients with acute, or potentially life-threatening medical problems, ranging from 18-years-old and older adults that may be admitted directly from the Emergency Department, inpatient units, procedure areas, or other hospitals.
Some of the major diagnosis Critical Care RNs will work with, includes the following:
- Sepsis
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Pneumonia
- Congestive heart failure
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- End-stage renal disease
- End-stage liver disease
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Asthma exacerbation
- Myocardial infarction
- Rhythm disturbances
- Complications resulting from cancer
- Stroke/TIA
- Overdose needing mechanical ventilation
Strategies to Assess and Meet Patient Care Needs
A Collaborative approach is utilized in caring for our patients. Clinical assessment, patient interviews, rounds, patient outcome, and satisfaction data and communication, determine the patient’s care requirements in the CCW with the patient and/or their designation spokesperson.
A multidisciplinary team delivers care to patients in the CCW, which includes intensivists, attending physicians, fellows, house staff, nurse practitioners, nurses, patient care technicians, unit clerks, social workers, physical/occupational therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, and other ancillary services.
All Services document in the medical record, which supports multidisciplinary patient care delivery along with daily patient rounds. Patient education is an interdisciplinary process. The patient’s individual plan of care includes an educational assessment with educational interventions matched to patients and family educational needs.

Qualifications
- An Associate Degree in Nursing is required; Bachelor of Science from a College of Nursing is preferred.
- Current Maryland RN licensure is required prior to beginning orientation.
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required upon hire
- Must meet all unit specific certification requirements: (PALS, ACLS, NRP)
- Must complete all of the Nurse Residency Program Requirements
- Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
