Position Summary

A MLT II Blood Bank performs various quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies to comply with physician requests for analyses of blood specimens in order to provide data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and to provide safe and timely blood products for patient transfusion.  A MLT II Blood Bank must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures, understands, and complies with the Behavior Standards and department policies, procedures and regulations.

Minimum Requirements


  • Associate degree in a laboratory related science with completion of an approved technical training program or equivalent experience, which must include training in transfusion services.



  • 0-1 year



  • MLT registry through an approved certifying agency (ASCP/ NCA).
  • Or CLA (ASCP) internally recognized as meeting MLT II job requirements (occurred in the early 1980).
