Job Description

General Summary

Under limited supervision, provides an advanced level of comprehensive health care to a specific patient population in collaboration with medical staff. Follow established applicable nursing and medical standards, procedures and practices, and give specific patient care directions to nursing and other support staff. Patients served include adolescent through adult-order adult.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

Clinical Practice

  • Demonstrates organizational competencies per standard.
  •  Conducts comprehensive or episodic assessment of patients to include histories and physical examinations. Performs antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care in conjunction with the Obstetrical Team. Individualizes clinical pathway.
  •  Establishes appropriate medical diagnosis for acute, chronic, or episodic health problems.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests and invasive procedures.
  • . Utilizing data obtained from history, physical examination, laboratory tests, and diagnostic procedures, develops and implements individualized care plan with patient/family based on diagnosis, patient care/age-specific needs and patient outcomes.
  • Prescribes and treats health needs of patients; performs treatment/procedures as indicated.
  •  Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Evaluates pharmacotherapeutic and non-pharmacological regimens and prescribes appropriate medications as authorized per physician letter of agreement.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master of Science degree with completion of an accredited Certified Nurse Midwifery Program required.
  • . Current state licensure as a Certified Nurse Midwife or eligible required, certified in area of specialty.
  • Minimum of two (2) years acute care experience required.
  •  Meets requirements to maintain clinical privileges as a member of the SRH Medical Staff.
  • . BLS certification is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  •  Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters. Demonstrated/documented effective interpersonal skills.
  •  Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training.
  • Updated immunizations as recommended per practice area.
