After initial RN assessment and under RN supervision assists in assessment of patient care needs Provides information to the RN that may be used in the assessment of patients Utilizes assessment data to identify and state obvious physiological and psychological problems, symptoms, behavioral changes and deviations from normal Suggests alternate approaches for obvious patient care problems to the primary nurse/shift coordinator Maintains continuity of nursing care and provides delegated direct care to patients based on the primary nurse’s plan of care and medical orders Routinely check each patient’s bedside to ensure that call bell, light and room clock are accessible and functioning Performs the associate nurse role as assigned Provides emergency patient care Manages physically and verbally aggressive patients Take and record height and weight, intake and output, temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pain and/or pulse oximetry as directed Complete required documentation per unit protocol Evaluates the clinical effectiveness of assigned interventions on a continuous basis Records patients information in the medical record in a timely manner Contributes in meeting and conferences Adheres to current organizational Performance Improvement priorities Participates in quality studies through data collection Makes recommendations and takes action to improve structure, system or outcomes Responsible for providing patient care in the Emergency Department by carrying out individualized patient treatment plans. Will assist with patient personal hygiene, medication administration, taking/recording vitals, specimen collection, and administration of patient treatments or procedures. Duties will also include observation, intervention, and physical restraint. Observes patients physical condition and behavior, including assignment to the Observation Desk and one-on-one observation for at-risk patients. Recognizes adverse psychological reactions to care and reports significant changes. Provides proactive interventions and therapeutic communication.
