The Dispatcher/Transfer Coordinator is responsible for staffing JeffSTAT's Communications Center and the Jefferson Transfer Center. He or she is responsible for coordinating the logistics of helicopter, ambulance, and paratransit transport and coordinating the logistics of external transfers to Jefferson for admission. Specifically, this includes receiving transport and transfer requests via telephone, conducting insurance verification, scheduling transports, assigning transports to the appropriate resources, maintaining real time accountability of all JeffSTAT's resources, entering data and time stamps into computer aided dispatch (CAD) software, facilitating physician to physician communication for transfer acceptance, working with Central Scheduling to obtain bed assignments, and communicating the transfer plans with personnel from the referring and receiving facilities. The Dispatcher/Transfer Coordinator must be an ambassador for Jefferson and shall provide superior customer service at all times to Jefferson's external and internal customers. The position includes, but is not limited to the following essential functions.
Receives calls from referring physicians seeking to transfer a patient to Jefferson for admission. Obtains pertinent clinical and diagnostic information from the referring physician for the receiving physicians to assist them with making decisions about acceptance and placement. Facilitates physician-to-physician communication for patient acceptance. Monitors physician to physician communication to confirm acceptance of the patient. Notifies nursing personnel at the referring and receiving hospital of the status of all transfers; facilitates a nurse-to-nurse report to ensure a continuity of care. Enters complete, real-time information regarding each transfer into RescueNet including the names of the referring and receiving facilities and physicians, demographic information, clinical information, bed assignments, and physician notifications; tracks cancellations reasons with precision. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital.
High School Diploma Required
EMT Certification preferred
Minimum of one (1) years’ experience as a dispatcher with a medical transportation service or as a coordinator in a hospital transfer center, admissions, or central scheduling office.
Minimum of two (2) years previous customer service experience
Familiar with medical terminology
Proficiency with common computer applications, such as Microsoft Office, email, and internet navigation
