Title: Advanced Practice Provider

Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider will staff the Med-Tele Unit from 7 PM to 7 AM at the Clinton campus, and will also respond to calls from nurses at the Leominster campus as discussed below. S/he will practice under the general supervision of a Hospitalist, who will be available by telephone at the Leominster campus.
Qualifications: Candidate must be the graduate of an approved Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) program and must have passed the ACNP Board certification exam or be a graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program with current NCCPA certification. S/he must also possess a current Massachusetts license, current Massachusetts Controlled Substances registration (or eligible), current Federal DEA Controlled Substance registration (or eligible), and current ACLS certification. Minimum of 1 year of NP or PA experience required. Experience in Hospital Medicine would be strongly preferred.
Responsibilities: The APP will be responsible for responding to requests from the Emergency Room physicians to consider admitting patients to the Clinton Med-Tele unit.
S/he will evaluate any patients who are admitted with a complete history and physical, review pertinent labs and imaging studies, order any additional evaluations that are deemed necessary, and initiate appropriate therapeutic interventions.
The APP will also evaluate and treat previously admitted patients on the Med-Tele unit and the Geri-Psych unit as requested by the nursing staff or the day Hospitalist, for any developing problems overnight.
S/he will respond to floor nurses’ requests for assistance with Leominster campus inpatients who have developing problems which, in the opinion of those nurses, can be handled without a face-to-face visit by a provider.
The Night Hospitalist at the Leominster Campus will be responsible for telephone consultation as needed, for any questions regarding patients at the Clinton campus. The Hospitalist will also address any issues on inpatients at the Leominster campus that the NP/PA feels require assessment and treatment by the Hospitalist.
The APP will participate in department driven practices including on call scheduling, alternating weekends, etc.
