The Chaplain shall provide pastoral services as part of the Hospital's comprehensive care to patients and act as a liaison to the religious community. Included is ministry to patients, families of patients, and to Hospital staff. This involves insuring adequate spiritual care to patients, arranging and conduction appropriate religious services and coordinating them with the activities of the department. The Chaplain shall offer professional leadership to the community by supporting and supplementing the work of the clergy within an ecumenical context.



A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college; a Master's degree from an accredited seminary or university, or equivalent education plus at least four units (the equivalent of one year training) in Clinical Pastoral Education.


1-3 years pastoral experience preferred

Interpersonal skills needed to work with distressed and anxious patients, families, and employees

Analytical ability to assess patients' spiritual needs and sense of well-being and find appropriate solutions to patient problems

Empathy for the problems experienced by patients and families; commitment to help the distressed

Communication skills necessary to counsel patients, families, and employees


Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains; National Association of Catholic Chaplains or National Association of Jewish Chaplains, or certification eligibility.
