Under the supervision of a physician, performs medical examinations, selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and other special procedures to assist in the delivery of medical services to patients. Work under the administrative and technical supervision of a physician, who accepts total responsibility for the health care of the patient when determining diagnosis and therapeutic treatment. Responsible to perform medical tasks in the care and treatment of patients. Evaluate patients' conditions by taking histories, performing physical examinations, applying diagnostic techniques, ordering and evaluating routine laboratory tests and performing selected therapeutic tasks, or other special procedures. Perform medical tasks to assist in the evaluation and observation of patients presenting a variety of medical problems that may range from chronic diseases, acute illnesses, episodic disorders, to health care maintenance. The AHP will practice to the fullest extent permitted under all current state and federal laws, and according to Jefferson Health NE approved policies
Education: Completion of a training program approved by the State Board of Medical Quality Assurance in the specific specialty if applicable. Successful completion from an AMA approved Physician Assistant program OR Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner Masters Degree Program. Specialty experience preferred on a position by position basis.
Experience: Skill in patient assessment, examination, and interviewing. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and to make independent judgements/decisions regarding patient care, within own scope of practice.
Licensure/Certification/Registration Requirements: A certificate to practice as a Physician's Assistant issued by the State Board of Medical Quality Assurance OR Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner Masters Degree Program. This position requires current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant OR Nurse Practitioner from the State; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
