The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at HealthAlliance Hospital, Leominster, MA. an affiliate hospital of the UMass Memorial Health Care System, and the Department of Pediatrics has an opening for a full time or 2 part time academic pediatric hospitalists. The Division currently has a strong clinical focus and responsibilities with the plan for teaching Family Medicine residents by the Fall of 2019. The Division includes 4.5 FTE physician faculty members and regional highly qualified community pediatricians to support weekend and night time coverage.
Responsibilities include care of infants within the Level 1 Nursery, attendance at deliveries, and emergency room consultations. This community based hospitalist program is the hub of inpatient pediatric care in the immediate region and we are developing a long term strategy to provide a higher level of newborn care.
The position includes, dedicated time to pursue scholarly activities in quality improvement or areas of pediatric child health, and opportunities to participate in career development programs at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Other responsibilities will include direct teaching of trainees at all levels.
The Department of Pediatrics training program has 24 pediatric residents and 16 med/peds residents. The Children’s Medical Center has a full complement of comprehensive pediatric medical and surgical subspecialty services, including a dedicated Pediatric ER and a level I trauma center.
The University of Massachusetts Medical School, located in Worcester, MA is the only public medical school in Massachusetts and is dedicated to serving the residents of the Commonwealth. The Medical School enrolls 175 students in each class and has teaching sites across the state. UMMS was founded in 1962 and has been rated in the top ten for primary care education every year since the rankings were first published in 1998. The Pediatric clerkship is ranked highly by students and each year, 15-25% of the class enters the field of Pediatrics.
